I am writing in support of Pennsylvania House Bill 317, the Pennsylvania Accountability Monitoring System, covered in Scott Beveridge’s March 2 article in the Observer-Reporter.

As a registered nurse and family nurse practitioner student, I believe it is overdue for Pennsylvania to introduce a central monitoring program to help identify prescription drug abuse. Similar programs in surrounding states have had very positive results and have had a great impact in the fight against narcotic abuse and prescription fraud.

It is now Pennsylvania’s turn to take a stand and help keep health care providers accountable. This system has the potential to benefit not only pharmacists, but all health care providers who prescribe medications as well as the general public.
