I was happy to see the letter in the Oct. 13 O-R by Lawrence Nader. He was suggesting that single-payer health care is the answer.

The USA already has a single-payer health care system with universal coverage. This system is approved by 88 percent of the American public. The system is called Medicare. It covers everyone, as long as you are over 65.

The easiest way to get coverage for everyone in the USA is to lower the eligibility age of Medicare – to zero.

Medicare has some flaws, but they are minor compared to the complexities and difficulties of our current system. Obamacare will cover a lot more people, but it retains much of the excess costs and coverage limitations of our current system.

Medicare for all. Why not?
