Your Monday editorial, “Legion community answering the call,” was a wonderful piece about the American Legion and the Rices Landing community.

I hope that your readers realize the American Legion is so much more than a social club for veterans. The Legion is about helping our communities, from sending packages to our troops overseas, to providing fields for youth baseball leagues, meeting spaces for scouts, polling places for voting, as well as helping families in need. The Legion also has numerous programs that help our youth, including scholarships for college.

If the Legion could just keep the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board from interfering with our games of chance fundraising events, we may just be able to continue helping our communities.
