In response to Jim Greenwood’s Wednesday letter, his comment that there are alternatives to coal for energy generation is valid. However, at this point, the alternatives are not abundant enough to replace the 35 to 40 percent used for electric generation in this country. The price to produce electricity through alternatives is significantly higher.

Also, I am constantly amazed by the lack of understanding that electric automobiles need to be charged, and depleted batteries need to be thrown out.

Until you can come up with a viable alternative, be glad that there are people willing to work and mine America’s resource and provide for their families.
