Waynesburg or Universityburg?

I object to Waynesburg University objecting to the proposal that would have the old Greene County office building be renovated into apartments.
What right does the university have to control what happens in our town? I don’t understand why the university would have a master plan drawn up by their architect as to how downtown Waynesburg should look in the future. And, yes, while the university is an integral part of our little town, by no means do they have the right to decide its future.
Waynesburg University bought the building that housed Hudson’s Jewelers and Lam’s Garden Chinese Restaurant to do what? Tear it down, force the tenants to relocate and then let grass grow in the empty lot. They bought the armory. They have torn down gorgeous homes so that campus can be expanded. And now they want yet another parking lot. How does that help our town? Adequate housing is needed much more than yet another parking lot. Waynesburg’s borough council should do what is best for Waynesburg, not what the university wants.
I agree that parking for the university is a problem. My solution to that would be for the university to change their rules as to who on campus may have a car. If they can’t adequately provide for all the needs of their students, then perhaps they are admitting too many students. If the university wants to have a good relationship with the community, taking over the town is not the way to achieve that goal.
This isn’t Universityburg. It’s Waynesburg. We need to keep it that way.
