Let me commend Bracken Burns for a cogent letter to the editor Friday, seconding your editorial regarding the income we are receiving from natural gas extraction.

As he notes, some of it should be spent on local and state needs, such as bridges and roads, and this is being done. But putting some of it in a long-term investment of some sort is also important.

I’m sure the counties and the state have enough bankers and other financial experts to figure out how to invest the money. What is needed, sooner rather than later, is the will to do it. If the state legislators don’t get around to doing it, perhaps the counties or even the townships could show them the way.
