I saw in last week’s newspaper where there may be other options for the Fredericktown ferry. I’m hoping it is sold to keep it in the river, not as a museum in East Bethlehem Township.

Dennis Slagle, a Fredericktown businessman, wants Fayette County to give it to the township as part of his “plan.” On the front page of the Wednesday edition of the Observer-Reporter, there was a photo of Paul Battaglini, of East Bethlehem’s commissioners, and Slagle meeting with Fayette’s commissioners asking for the ferry. Really?

I was born in Fredericktown and have lived near the Monongahela River all my life and I’d rather see it sold for scrap than end up as a museum to rot like the Clyde Mine. They should be worried about keeping it afloat, or fixing up the dilapidated buildings instead of the ferry as a museum. It’s another asinine idea.
