I have been involved with the Monongahela Food Pantry for over 10 years. During this time, I have worked with the Greater Washington County Food Bank and we have received donations from several public groups.

I find it troubling that some people have lost sight of the true meaning of what we do. Volunteers work to be sure the needy in our area are able to receive food. Some have decided to turn the “food fight” between the Greater Washington County Food Bank and the Great American Food Drive into a political issue.

It is taking away food donations from the needy who are receiving food at 38 food banks in the county, which serve 5,000 families. It is also putting donors, both individual and corporate, in a position of having to decide which organization to support.

The food banks do an outstanding job of food distribution each and every month. Remember, the goal is to see that these 5,000 families have something to eat.
