Don’t lower physical fitness requirements

The Friday editorial, “Physical requirements in place for a reason,” caught my attention.

In suing the Pennsylvania State Police over the physical fitness requirements it has imposed for women who want to be troopers, has The U.S. Justice Department taken into account that if physical standards were reduced,it would affect the level of protection provided by the sate police?

The public deserves the highest level of protection the state police provide now, not a lower level of protection resulting from reduced physical fitness requirements for some of the troopers.

Why reduce physical standards for females? This would jeopardize the public safety the state police provide. Nothing about this approach makes sense.
