Gay marriage should not be accepted

The Feb. 6 editorial addressed “prayerful wishes that every state embrace lawful gay marriage.” Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect that. Though it makes no sense to me, the need for spousal benefits seems to be the overriding force to approve gay marriage.

The wisest man ever, King Solomon, said, “There is nothing new under the sun”. We will never stop deviant behavior in this world, but neither are we required to accept it; further, we should never refrain from speaking out against it.

We have young, impressionable children for which we are to set an example. When we show our children that gambling is fine and murder of the unborn is fine, they will be left thinking that anything and everything is fine, especially when the state redefines the thousands-of-years-old definition of marriage to be between any two people, animals, or things.

It has been shown that what one generation tolerates, the next generation accepts, and the third generation embraces. It is also wrong that those who hold to the traditional definition of marriage are labeled as homophobes. We who are silent are just as responsible as those who are pushing for redefinition.

I am as sinful as anyone else, so I am not being judgemental or more holy than anyone; indeed, I am speaking as an imperfect, but forgiven, Christian. Just read Romans 1:22-32, especially verse 32, and decide for yourself: Should a true Christian condone gay marriage?
