Increasingly the news media has been referring to “fundamentalist Christians” as if they are ignorant radicals to be vilified, or at best, avoided and ridiculed. True, there are extremists in every religion, but one cannot judge all by a few.

Historically, there are five fundamentals of the Christian faith that must be believed to be a “fundamentalist” Christian: belief in the Trinity; belief that Jesus is both fully God and fully man; belief that Jesus died for our sins and rose again; belief that salvation is by faith in Jesus alone; and belief that the Bible is God’s Word. All over the world, there are people quietly loving their neighbors, paying their taxes, respecting their government, who would be genuine “fundamentalist” Christians.
