This letter is in response to Paul Lagojda’s letter concerning the teaching of flag etiquette that appeared in the Dec. 29 edition of the Observer-Reporter.
The Mon Valley Shipmates flag team continues to travel to schools in Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties, teaching fifth-grade students how to properly display the American flag, to show respect, to properly fold the flag, what each fold means and a brief history of the flag. So far this school year, we have gone to 26 schools, with eight more on our schedule.
Any elementary school principal or fifth-grade teacher may call me if they would like to have the program presented at their school. It is about a 45-minute program and there is no charge.
