After reading Wednesday’s newspaper, I now know that I am not the only one who is having trouble processing the recent TV ads by potential governors who say they will solve funding problems for schools by imposing an extraction tax the Marcellus Shale industry.

First, if a tax is imposed, who do we think will pay this tax? Of course, it will ultimately be the taxpayers.

Secondly, we need to remember that one of the characteristics of government is that once they impose a new tax, it will always be there. They never remove taxes once they have been added. Look at what happened to Social Security. The government saw that pile of money and thought they could put it to better use. The result of this robbery from Social Security is that they now are telling us when Social Security will be running out of money and the government will never pass any plan to put the money back since they are already so deep in debt.

If it sounds like I am not trusting of government, it is because that is the case.
