Your Oct. 21 editorial, “The country is not ‘out of control'” was long overdue.
It is interesting in a day and age where so much reliable information can be obtained by using today’s technology that so many rely on the “yackers” for their views of America and the world. We continue to live in the most interesting times of our species and, as the world and its people get closer, we can only progress and enjoy life more.
Every era has had its issues and challenges. Having lived through the period you reference, I often felt that not only America, but also the entire world was out of control. One of the most popular songs of the 1960s was Barry McGuire’s “Eve of Destruction.” It noted that “the eastern world it is exploding,” “You can leave here for four days in space, but when you return it’s the same old place,” and “hate your next door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace.” Give a listen to it again.
The garbage-in, garbage-out mentality certainly applies to so many of the media’s fear mongers.
