I am writing regarding an item that appeared in the police blotter Nov. 4. You reported on an employee of the Shop ‘n Save store on Jefferson Avenue being kissed by an intoxicated man. The employee was described as “mentally disabled.”

In this politically correct society in which we find ourselves, is it correct to define a person by their disability? I was offended on behalf of the young victim and her family and found your description of her to be insensitive at the very least.

I don’t know any of these folks personally, but I have observed that this woman is very pleasant and outgoing in her interaction with customers. I commend the owners of Shop ‘n Save for giving this opportunity to her and others.
