It’s no wonder East Washington is in the state it is in, with issues ranging from First Christian Church renting space to Weight Watchers, curbs, a former police chief in prison and now Mayor Michael Gomber wants to renegotiate or end the borough’s contract with Washington for fire protection.

Fire, police, car insurance, home-owners insurance and life insurance are all alike – you pay for them and hope to God you never need them. People don’t appreciate the police or fire departments until they need them. You pay about $57,000 per year for 24/7 fire protection, and that’s for one call or thousands. If all the local fire departments turn East Washington down and make the borough buy its own truck and man it, just the start-up costs will be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and the yearly cost well over $100,000.

If you don’t understand how something works ask and learn. Then you don’t look like a fool.
