Incompetence resides on Thayer Street, the group home for officials of the East Washington Borough Council.

After mangling the borough police department, a faction has apparently decided to take on the Washington Fire Department. The recent “discussion” would be embarrassing even to juveniles. Councilwoman Tamara Chacko said that East Washington does not “get anything from them presently for what they have done for us in this borough,” complaining that she has never seen a fire truck in the neighborhood.

HINT: There aren’t many fires in East Washington! I would be much more concerned if I saw a fire truck every day. The fire department doesn’t make social calls and bring a big ladder truck just to wave and say hello.

Someone requested a report on the number of responses the department had made to the borough, and Linn Brookman, Washington’s fire chief, said he’d previously provided a list of calls over the past decade. Did no one read it?

On a personal note, about a month ago a huge tree fell on a house on Wilmont Avenue and ruptured a gas main. Driving by, I saw a fire truck right there, on standby.
