I am concerned with the depiction of violence in front yards and, especially, in the haunted house tours this time of the year.
We are living in a violent society, and it’s no wonder. Children are being desensitized to violence from the time they are very young. These haunted houses push the envelope to see how violent they can be, depicting beheadings, electrocutions, torture, gore and death.
These scenes, at the very least, can cause nightmares in sensitive children, and, at worst, can cause some people to act upon what they see, especially people with psychological problems and people who feed upon violence. Depicting violence in an already violent society is not harmless entertainment, and laws should be written to prohibit scenes of violence portrayed as entertainment.
