I wish to thank Ralph Gatten for his letter concerning the natural gas industry which appeared in last Sunday’s newspaper.

It is about time someone told the truth about what the natural gas industry is paying to Pennsylvania counties and municipalities in impact fees. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Wolf runs ads saying that the natural gas companies should pay “their fair share” and never mentions all the money the industry is already paying to Pennsylvania. Ask your neighbors how much money Washington and Greene counties have received in the last three years from impact fees, or how much their municipality has received from the impact fees and they will likely respond, “What is an impact fee?”

Meanwhile these ads are stating half-truths. And what does Mr. Wolf want to do with these new taxes he is proposing? Of course, more school funding and more money for welfare. And what will happen when the gas industry says, “Forget it, Pennsylvania”? You and I, the taxpayer, will pick up the difference.

Remember how slots were supposed to reduce property taxes? Seems to me that my property taxes are higher now. How many times does this have to happen before the general public wakes up and asks what is really going on?
