Historic books are disappearing
Why are so many first-edition books, memorial books and volumes about our Armed Forces being pulled from the shelves of libraries in Washington County?
Having just celebrated Veterans Day and with the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack coming up Monday, our veterans and library patrons deserve better. Local librarians seem to do nothing about this, continuing to allow such books to be removed because they “have not been read in a while.”
I recently rescued a photo book about Washington County men who served in World War I that was pulled from a library shelf in spite of the fact that it was the only copy of the book within the system.
Who is responsible for disposing of these valuable and historic books?
