I read with interest the letter that John Quayle wrote about President Obama that was in the June 28 edition of the Observer-Reporter. It saddens me to say his criticism of the president is 100 percent correct. I agree with all that he wrote and some of the statistics he cited are truly alarming.

After the last presidential election, I wrote that I mourned for our country and, unfortunately, that has not changed. Actually, it has gotten worse. We, as American citizens, have the right to vote to make the changes that are needed to put this country back to where it needs to be. We are no longer respected in the world and have become a laughingstock by so many of those who are out to hurt us. They need to be stopped and nothing is getting done to do that.

The younger generation has not been taught enough about the history of this country and what the Founding Fathers did to ensure so many of the things that we all take for granted. It is time to take our country back, and the only way that can be done is to make sure that people become well-informed and to vote in all the elections.

After I read Quayle’s letter, I turned to the last page of Region section I and read the following quote: “The glory of each generation is to make its own precedents”. I truly hope and pray that the present generation takes this to heart, looks at the big picture and works to bring this country back to the place in history where it should be. What this generation does now will have a huge impact on their children and grandchildren. I hope they look toward the future. It can be bright if they take the steps to make it happen.
