Musical is a knockout

Old Schoolhouse Players in Hickory consistently produces good, fun theater. The current production, the musical “1776,” is just a knockout. It brings to life, like your history teacher never could, the creation of the United States by a Congress that battled whether to separate from Britain, and then write the Declaration of Independence.
It’s pretty accurate historically, very funny, and very touching at times, nearly three hours of first-rate theater. The cast is unusually large, consisting of 25 actors, and expertly chosen. This play just jumps from the stage with humor and humanity. And the pit orchestra sounds really good, with expert musicians.
There are three more performances left, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and I highly recommend it.
