Your readers may have heard that on July 1, the United Way of Allegheny County merged with the United Ways in Westmoreland and Fayette counties. The newly formed United Way will be called The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

To avoid any confusion, we want to alert our contributors, especially those who donate through workplace campaigns in the other counties, that United Way of Washington County is not part of the new United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Contributors who work outside of Washington County are reminded to be sure to designate your United Way contribution to Washington County’s United Way, or to Greene County or Mon Valley United Ways.

In this our 90th year, we continue to be an independent, efficiently managed, locally governed and financially healthy organization, dedicated to raising funds that help support people in Washington County. We remain autonomous and will continue to support local vendors and to operate under the highest professional standards. Our local campaigns have increased in each of the last nine years, allowing us to increase our investment in the community and maintain our local identity. We look forward to serving the people of Washington County for many years to come.

Joseph P. Flynn, Jr.

Barbara P. Murphy

Flynn is the chairman of the board of directors of the United Way of Washington County. Murphy is its president.
