Some wisdom from our forebears

Upon reading the July 12 letter, “Confederate flag a symbol of pride,” I was aghast. Feeling compelled to respond, I’d like to offer a collection of wisdom from our forebears whose collective intellect I know to be astronomically superior to my own:
“I know not what course others will take, but as for me…”
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
“No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
“Pride goeth before destruction.”
