An unfair tax

I am writing this letter in reference to Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed tax on gas production for the benefit of Pennsylvania’s schools. I presume these funds will be distributed to school districts on the basis of population. If so, the majority of this tax will serve urban areas or those with large populations. It will not be distributed to the areas that are generating natural gas. This is unfair.

I am a landowner who is selling the gas I own to a gas company. From this, royalties are paid to me. These royalties are paid only after the costs of production are deducted. You can see that I am in partnership with the gas company to produce and sell my gas.

The gas companies are hiring a well-paid workforce, and are paying their fair share to the commonwealth. With these payments, I don’t see why Wolf insists on another layer of taxation that I, and others like me, must pay.
