Let the cowboys ride

When reviewing a 2015 calendar, I noticed we have holidays for almost everything. I am sure everyone is already making plans for the Fourth of July celebration. But did you know that we have two holidays in July? The second holiday occurs July 25. That is the National Day of the Cowboy.
The holiday falls on the fourth Saturday in July every year. It honors all American cowboys who settled in the Wild West. In some southern states, but especially in the western ones, this holiday is celebrated with rodeos, cookouts, parades and fireworks.
It is about time our legislators and Gov. Tom Wolf approve a resolution recognizing this day in Pennsylvania. Why is this day so important to me? I have ancestors who are American cowboys who settled in the Wild West. This is part of my family’s heritage. We do have many American cowboys and cowgirls living in Pennsylvania today who would probably like to honor their ancestors.
