What are the chances that negotiations can stop Iran’s nuclear program? What we do know for sure is that no negotiations leaves Iran completely free to do what it wants without any inspections or incentive for any cooperation. There is zero chance that Iran will spontaneously stop work on its own.

Reasonable people want to try negotiations. Republicans, playing to the yahoos in their districts and the Netanyahus internationally, want to have no negotiations. The Republican position seems to be, “Let’s be macho and insult our twice-elected president, and that’ll get us re-elected in our districts. Who cares what it does to our country’s respect or safety?”

All Americans should be outraged at the letter Senate Republicans sent to the Iranian government.
