Given one deplorable incident after another, is it not time to disband college fraternities, which have proven to be a force representing what is wrong in society?

The cover story that fraternity members would like us to believe is that fraternities benefit the community, that the “brother” is an upstanding young man with a moral compass, and that he and his brethren are a philanthropic resource.

Nonsense.

That may have been true in the past, but today’s fraternity houses are fronts for underage binge drinking, sexual activity which is fomented through members and guests’ states of inebriation, and initiation rites that are so stupid and senseless as to cause a reasonable person to be chilled that those participating are the future leaders of our country and our society.

It is often said that males do not develop the ability to reason until they reach their late 20s. That would seem to be proven through the actions of fraternities, whose members regularly do what is irrational, senseless, foolish, and often dangerous. It is instructive to note that one rarely, if ever, hears of sorority members making fools of themselves. Women who belong to sororities must be shaking their heads, wondering why their male counterparts refuse to grow up and act responsibly.

Society would derive a net benefit if fraternities were to become extinct.
