It seems like it’s time someone opens the eyes of school directors who want to raise property taxes in order to increase wages, pensions and perks for teachers and administrators.

When I was a school director, I tried and failed to lower taxes. I tried to enact a property tax decrease by proposing a parking tax at First Niagara Pavilion, which would have generated enough revenue to lower the property tax by as much as 3 mills. This is still possible, and would make good sense.

Now is the time to give property owners a break and have the people who attend concerts at the amphitheater a few times a year help pay part of the cost. I think the school board is looking for water when they are surrounded by a lake.
