The 54th anniversary of Newton Minnow famously calling television “a vast wasteland” was noted in your May 9 edition.
I agree that television programming is a vast wasteland. My cable service is bundled with telephone and Internet access. The phone is a necessity; Internet access is utilized with caution. The 154 cable channels offered represent the “vast wasteland.” If I were allowed to select and pay for channels, fewer than 20 would be available on my TV.
I have been advised that I pay about 50 cents per month, per channel, excluding the monthly cost of ESPN. With 20 million subscribers nationwide and $10 million coming in per month, everyone could start their own channel.
