On Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day, members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars took part in a quick service at the Washington County Courthouse to place a wreath, as we do every year, to honor our living and fallen veterans.

Each year, fewer and fewer people show up, as if no one knows what the day means.

However, as I was folding the flag to store away, four or five teenagers gave me a card. Before I had a chance to read it, they slipped away. It was a card expressing thanks for our service.

I have to say, I was surprised and glad these young students would take the time to attend our service and be thoughtful enough to hand me a card, which I read at our monthly meeting.
