A Halloween tale

It is the week of Halloween on the street where I live,

The beeping, and congestion-oh something must give.

We taxpayers know that progress is good,

But everyone’s not doing all that they should.

The construction workers open hole after hole,

They stand there and look in it, then off they go.

The road pavers are done, but will return in the spring,

The job is not right and needs to be dug up again – “cha-ching.”

The bridge workers (pounding, drilling with spotlights begin at 5:00 a.m.) are proud of the work they do,

The hikers, bikers and walkers will surely be happy, too.

But the business owners and homeowners have been inconvenienced beyond progress,

This project started in February and was to be done by late August.

You know the election is only a few days away,

Ask your elected officials about the road project to see what they say.

We haven’t seen one of them here to support us,

Not one to ask, “How’s it going in Venice?”

The ribbon cutting ceremony is coming our way,

We bet many dedicated officials will show up that day.

This sounds like a scary Halloween tale, but what would you do,

Because a project like this one might be coming near you!
