The time has come to turn the lights back on at Greene County Airport. The Observer-Reporter‘s Sept. 4 article, “Land dispute hampers airport,” does not go far enough into the necessity of keeping this airport operating 24/7/365.

Economics enters the picture here. S.O.A.R. (Support Our Aviation Resources) of Greene County was instrumental in the installation of 24-hour, self-service fuel capabilities. A pilot can’t purchase fuel and generate revenue for the county after sunset and before sunrise if the airport is closed. Getting the trees removed, the lights back on and increased revenue flowing into county coffers should be priority one.

Some will say this generates more air traffic and more noise. It also generates revenue. And, as Max Loughman, the president of S.O.A.R. has said, if you know the airport is there and it bothers you, maybe you should buy property elsewhere.
