For quite some time now in our increasingly me-me-me society, the modus operandi of people who have made grievous mistakes in their lives is often to look for someone else on whom to blame the misfortune and, if possible, find someone to sue.

Such is the case with the auto crash death of movie actor Paul Walker, best known for his role as Brian O’Connor in the “Fast & Furious” film series.

Walker was the passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT that crashed and burst into flames in November 2013. According to a police report on the accident, the Porsche was traveling between 80 and 93 mph in an area with a posted speed limit of 45 mph. The driver, Walker friend Roger Rodas, also was killed.

But that didn’t stop attorneys for Walker’s 16-year-old daughter, Meadow Rain Walker, from filing a wrongful death suit blaming it all on Porsche and the design and safety features of its sports car.

Why not sue Rodas’ estate? Perhaps he didn’t have deep pockets. Porsche is a multibillion-dollar company and, as such, a prime target for suits like this.

Porsche issued the following statement in response to the suit: “We are saddened whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe the authorities’ reports in this case clearly established that this tragic crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed.”

Precisely. We hope that the judge who hears this case will recognize it for what it is – a cash grab – and summarily dismiss it.
