Climate deniers are irresponsible
Climate-change deniers in Washington, D.C., recently held another hearing attacking the Clean Power Plan, which is the biggest step our nation has taken to fight climate change.
Here in Pennsylvania it’s even worse. Opponents to climate action are pushing a bill in the state Senate that would delay tackling the problem here at home.
Those who stand in the way of climate action appear to have missed the fact that Pope Francis and some of our nation’s top military leaders are calling climate change a moral issue and a national security threat. More than 40 faith groups recently filed legal briefs defending the Clean Power Plan and highlighting the moral imperative to tackle climate change. Earlier this year, the Pentagon instructed top military officials on how to deal with hazards related to climate change.
This isn’t a game. By ignoring the facts of climate change, climate deniers aren’t just ignoring the urging of faith leaders and military experts – they’re ignoring their responsibility to protect future generations and the communities they’ve been elected to represent.
