Monongahela library should get support

I read Emma Ott’s April 17 letter to the editor arguing Ringgold School District should not fund the Monongahela Area Library, and I strongly disagree with her logic.

Monongahela Area Library is not in Peters Township or South Park. It is in Monongahela. Many children from the town can walk to the library. What a blessing! Not everyone has available transportation, as you must have if you go to the Peters Township Public Library.

I would never underestimate the value of the latest library technology, but I would never underestimate the importance of the local library. Many resources that may be available at your local public library are not necessarily available at a school library, such as genealogy and history collections.

Also, I have never met a selfish librarian. They all want to share their knowledge and help in any way possible. If someone needs access to a computer, they should try the library. School libraries are generally not open in the summer. The public library is. Parents can check out materials for their children or order materials from other libraries.

I know the school district’s budget is tight, but any amount of money from the school district or citizens would be greatly appreciated. I am sending the Monongahela Area Library a check today.

Incidentally, I am from Peters Township.
