Fond memories of West Washington Hardware
The article on the closing of the West Washington Hardware drummed up fond childhood memories. When I started building model airplanes, they were only balsa and tissue, and the only place in Washington to purchase a kit was at that store. I remember making that purchase from Bruce Rogers, the owner. He was a great man to deal with when you were 13 years-old.
I can remember walking to the store with my father to find a specific item for something around the house. That store seemed to always have what you needed.
Yes, the big chains have taken over, and the era of neighborhood shops slips further into the past. Maybe the city could arrange for a historical marker to be placed on the building.
