Duke’s return is no surprise
No one should be surprised that David Duke is seeking a return to the public stage, announcing a bid for the United States Senate from Louisiana. This, after all, is the era in which the unthinkable has happened – Republicans having elevated a vile, ignorant, hateful, intolerant man to be its standard-bearer in this year’s presidential race. These are heady days for the likes of David Duke.
I believe Duke’s plan to seek elective office is premature. If Donald Trump should win in November, Duke could have been nominated for a Cabinet post, perhaps that of attorney general. He could quickly secure a law degree from the august Trump University before he would be expected to begin his period of service.
David Duke and President Donald Trump would get along beautifully as they seek to protect white Americans from the rampant discrimination that we suffer in this country. They could together bemoan the fact that a Kenyan-born Muslim was permitted to serve as president for eight years.
