Residents deserve to be heard
Your July 27 article on the challenge to Mt. Pleasant Township’s zoning ordinance, “PennFuture wins appeal in Mt. Pleasant Twp.,” made us laugh when Range Resources – the Texas-headquartered gas company – suggested that the nonprofit law firm representing local citizens was an “outside, special-interest group” that did not have our community’s interests at heart.
For nearly 20 years, PennFuture has provided free legal help to individuals, sportsmen’s groups, and conservation organizations throughout Pennsylvania. They responded to our request for assistance because we are concerned about the effects of drilling on our community, and want a serious discussion about how we intend to regulate it. Some of us have lived in this community for over 40 years, and we want our children to be able to live here long after Range Resources has pulled up stakes and moved on to their next gas play.
Perhaps upholding the Constitution is just “symbolic” to Range Resources, but for those of us that are from Pennsylvania, we believe strongly in our right to live in a healthy environment that is free from industrial development being located in our residential communities. Residents, and not just Texas drillers, deserve to be heard.
