Replace property tax with sales tax

Once again, the tax hammer comes down on respectable people who own property.

I think of all the empty promises and outright lies about alleviating the tax burden on Pennsylvania residents that have been made by devious politicians. I have no doubt that property owners in this state would agree that the most logical and simple way to eliminate the school tax would be to have a state sales tax to support the demands of a failed public school system.

Taxpayers should come together and organize a movement to pressure the politicians in this state to do the right thing. People who strived to own their own homes, pay taxes, support our schools and government and who now are senior citizens on fixed incomes are forced to pay outrageous taxes. It’s time for our government to consider helping senior citizens who have contributed all their lives by paying taxes and being respectable citizens.

By putting a sales tax in place, we would benefit from people who take advantage of the tax system by simply not owning property. These people should be doing their part. A 1 percent sales tax would eliminate this burden that property owners are forced to bear. That might sound harsh to the impoverished and underprivileged, but isn’t it time for all of us to pull the weight of responsibility for a change? That is one of the basic building blocks for a strong and viable society.
