Pay attention in parking lots
Everyone is in a hurry these days. We all need to be somewhere fast.
There has recently been a lot of discussion about talking on our phones while we are driving, because doing so can lead to some precarious situations, some of which can be fatal.
But there is another situation that can be perilous, and that is driving while not paying attention to your surroundings. This can be seen daily in store parking lots.
Do we remember what the speed limit is in parking lots? Do we remember that pedestrians have the right of way in crosswalks?
Unfortunately, I can attest to the fact that people don’t follow the speed-limit rules.
Regrettably, I have witnessed numerous accidents or near-misses at a store within walking distance from my house. In fact, I witnessed an individual hit an elderly woman in the parking lot, and the driver thought that something had fallen over in his trunk.
Sometimes people are not near crosswalks and they cross the street at their own risk.
Drivers should try to be considerate when they see someone crossing a street carrying bags of groceries.
It will only cause a moment’s delay and show kindness in a world that needs more of it.
