Outraged over treatment of Ostop
I just finished reading the Saturday article by David Singer about the Independence Township Community Center and I am absolutely outraged.
And I’m outraged for so many reasons, too many to cover in this letter, but most of all for the insults and innuendoes leveled against Mildred Ostop, a dedicated, caring, selfless person who served this community for over 45 years as township secretary.
I realize Ostop declined to comment, and that doesn’t surprise me. She is, in addition to all of her other attributes, very modest and, I’m sure, extremely hurt that anyone could imply any sort impropriety on her part.
According to the article, “her refusal to provide officials with complete township records led (Solicitor Gary Sweat) to recommend the township hire outside auditing services for the first time.” I, and many others, would like to know exactly what records he’s referring to. She gave up the holidays, refusing to leave town to be with her family, because she wanted to finish preparing all of the paperwork for the upcoming audit. I wonder how Sweat and the supervisors spent their holidays.
