Why college costs are so high
If you are a parent wondering why the cost of college has skyrocketed with no seeming end in sight, you need look no further than the front page of the Observer-Reporter for an explanation. The story about California University of Pennsylvania eliminating seven positions says it all.
One of the positions was for that of assistant director of the Women’s Center. The assistant director. According to the story, the remaining director will have to bear the loathsome burden of engaging as a “victim advocate” all by herself. I am assuming it is a she, although that is probably a sexist assumption on my part.
Students are justifiably upset at the assistant director’s dismissal, and have taken to Facebook (whatever that is) to express their outrage. I am outraged at the way this newspaper has been complicit in covering up all the cases of rampant abuse of women that is obviously endemic at Cal U. Such must be case since two people were needed to address this issue. For shame!
Now that there is only one left to fill this role, I can only imagine the horrors we will be hearing about. Or not, based on the Observer-Reporter’s previous burying of these stories. The article states that “it was not immediately known what other positions were involved.” What’s next? Assistant director of diversity? Or, worse still, director of inclusiveness? When will it stop?
