Scenic … most of the time

Turning off Park Avenue onto Scenic Drive in South Franklin Township, you readily find out why it is called scenic.

Autumn colors reflect off a dam, ice fishermen try their luck in the winter and various types of wildlife cross your path. What is not so scenic is the trash that gets deposited along the road.

One can easily gauge the amount of time it takes the average person to eat a hamburger, fries and a cold drink from one of the local fast-food restaurants based on the location of bags, wrappers and drink containers.

Recently, someone dropped off a king-size mattress and box springs. I would like to think that their purpose was to look out for some weary traveler or perhaps the wildlife that might want to nap.

I just wish that people would show some respect not only for the environment but also for the people who dispose of their trash properly and who like to enjoy a little nice scenery once in a while.
