We’ve all seen the signs. You can’t travel within a 50-mile radius of Waynesburg without seeing “0+ Lungs for Morgan Yoney,” with some reaching as far as Pittsburgh.

People in the community have come to know the story about the girl with the purple hair. Morgan Yoney, the 22-year-old Spraggs woman, has been waiting two years for her second double-lung transplant.

Her story has touched countless people throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. Diagnosed at 9 months old with cystic fibrosis, Yoney’s already gone through a liver and double-lung transplant. Now, she needs another lung transplant because her body rejected the first set.

Yoney has every reason to sulk or be unwilling to force herself out of bed each day. Many of us might have given up the fight to one day be able to breathe on our own.

But not Morgan.

She’s using this waiting period to help others in similar health situations as herself by taking all the support she’s received from Greene County and neighboring areas and directing it to a blood drive.

Having experienced countless blood transfusions over the course of her illness, she knows the importance of donating blood. So, she’s asked the people who have rallied behind her – Morgan’s Army – to donate blood to the Central Blood Bank of Pittsburgh.

It’s a testimony to the type of person Yoney is. She’s a fighter, not just for her own life, but for anyone who’s ever sat in a hospital bed in need of blood.

Her actions are also a testament to Greene County. Yoney’s selfless mentality throughout this two-year wait – even in her greatest time of need – shows she’s doing everything she can to help other people.

And in return, her army is waiting with her on that phone call that will be music to our ears: “Morgan, we have lungs.”
