The smell of bad management
The May 24 article in the Observer-Reporter at the Washington County Health Center has spurred me to respond.
Question: Why is the Washington County Board of Commissioners spending $30,000 for a study concerning a budget shortfall of almost $2 million at the health center?
Answer: They don’t want to make the tough decisions themselves and will blame a sham study instead.
Fact: A licensed practical nurse with a base salary of $50,000 per year and weekly overtime of 24 hours to 32 hours would make $90,000 per year.
It doesn’t take a chief financial officer with a Ph.D in economics to see that this is one of possibly many reasons why the health center can’t “break even.” If the commissioners insist on paying out $30,000 for something they should be doing themselves, then donate it to the pension fund of county workers.
All this smells of a lack of responsibility and bad management.
