Trump should choose justices on Supreme Court

There are two Donald Trump yard signs in my lawn. Does this mean I look upon him as a great man, a wonderful choice in the presidential race and an outstanding future leader? Perish the thought! He was my 16th choice in the Republican primary contest.

Why then do I have the signs in my yard? The answer is twofold: Supreme Court appointments and the respect I have for our Constitution.

The first presidential election in which I voted was in 1956, when Democrat Adlai Stevenson was pitted against President Dwight Eisenhower. Since then, I have voted in 15 presidential elections – seven times for Democrats, six times for Republicans and two times for a third-party candidate. Never before have the choices for president been so dismal. I shudder at the thought of either Trump or Hillary Clinton leading this country for the next four years.

However, Trump has at least promised to appoint conservative justices to the U.S. Supreme Court who will abide by the constitutional laws that have made this country the greatest nation in the world. Clinton’s choices will lead us down a road that not only ignores constitutional law, but aims to replace it, along with many of the family and Judeo-Christian values we cherish.

We can survive four years of Trump. I fear the values we have come to know will never survive four or eight years of Clinton and a Supreme Court packed with ultra-liberal justices who want to destroy our Constitution.
