O-R captured the mood of the country
I take exception to the letter posted on Sunday from Bill and Sally Northrop.
I wish not to debate the issues of why they were “mortified,” but I did not consider the editorial page the day after election to be an “insult.” When I opened the morning paper, I thought how brilliant “We have no words” was, because that is exactly what all who followed this campaign from start to finish were experiencing at the moment “Trump wins” was announced.
We were speechless.
I believe the Observer-Reporter captured the mood of the country and thank you for being so brave to have blank spaces on the editorial page, knowing opposition was more than likely to follow. Let the editorial page all the days following express the words of what a Donald Trump win might mean, but not the day after – silence was perfect because it simply stated and reflected how dumbstruck the country was as a whole.
I forwarded that editorial page to all my Facebook friends who have moved from this area to faraway places and received overwhelming responses back, such as “marvelous,” “proud of my local paper,” “wow” and “amazing”.
Thank you for taking this viewpoint. This certainly fortifies me as always being a subscriber.
