Sick of college protesters

Regardless of who you voted for in the election, most of us are sick of seeing the college protesters on the news. I’m tired of stories of hot chocolate and therapy dogs. Wait until these kids start getting rejection letters after applying for jobs in a couple of years. The support group that handed out tissues and held their hands will be long gone, busy educating the next group of tuition cash cows.

It’s OK to feel disappointed and to commiserate with others who feel the same way, but has anyone pointed out that demonstrations need to have a purpose? During the 1960s, protests spotlighted questionable government policies and probably had at least some bearing on continued U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. More recently, the riots in Ferguson, Mo., though unnecessarily violent and destructive, had a goal and that was to call attention to a perceived unfairness of the treatment of the black community.

What is the purpose of protesting after the election? A lot of the protesters don’t look old enough to vote, and how many of them actually did vote? The news media needs to stop giving them attention that they do not deserve. Maybe then they will go home so they await for the participation trophy that is coming from Hillary Clinton in the mail.
