Vote for the future
This letter is about some of the rhetoric that has been offered in this presidential campaign about jobs, and particularly jobs in the coal industry.
The owners of coal mines were told years ago that they needed to make improvements to pollution controls and safety. Instead, they were more concerned about their profits. Now, in order to keep as much of their profit as they can, they have started to shut down mines, robbing hardworking miners of their pensions, health care coverage and other benefits. The taxpayers will now have to provide these benefits while the greedy coal operators walk off with their money.
If any candidate tells you they are bringing coal back, they are lying. We need to start investing in the future by seeking new innovations in energy, such as solar, natural gas and wind. These sources of energy and more will provide individuals with good-paying jobs and benefits that will last well into the future.
To accomplish this, we need everyone to get out and vote for the future.
